Evans admits he will retire if United don’t offer him a new deal

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has revealed he could retire from football if he does not sign a new contract with the club.

The 36-year-old returned to the Red Devils last summer after his contract with Leicester City expired.

He was initially signed on a short-term deal to build up his fitness during pre-season but Erik ten Hag was impressed and signed him until the end of the season, handing Evans a new deal that will keep him as the big man in the dressing room for another year.

“The fine print took a little bit longer than expected but I knew I was not going anywhere. I had two options: stay here or retire,” ทางเข้า https://ufabet999.app Evans said.

“I’m delighted to have another season and the club wanted me to stay. I had a great season last season and I want to continue that.”

Despite signing as a back-up, Evans only made 30 appearances in all competitions last term due to a defensive injury crisis.

After leaving to join West Brom in 2015, he enjoyed success with Leicester City, winning the Emirates FA Cup in 2021. Following his departure from the Foxes, he trained with the Reds and signed a short-term contract in order to feature in the pre-season for Erik ten Hag’s men.
